A superb quality mid-century teak tallboy chest of drawers by William Lawrence of Nottingham, dating from the 1960s. This is a particularly handsome and substantial piece, with the warm honey tones and beautifully figured grain of the teak complemented by William Lawrence’s clean, understated British mid-century design. It is a very well-made and pleasingly heavy piece of furniture, with a wonderfully solid feel.

The chest features six drawers, with five full-width drawers providing excellent practical storage. Each of these five drawers is finished with beautifully shaped, sculpted wooden handles which curve gently out from the drawer fronts. The handles have a lovely organic form, typical of the refined detailing found on quality mid-century furniture, and sit beautifully against the clean horizontal lines of the teak drawer fronts.

Above these is the smaller, shallower top drawer of the same width which has a discreet handleless pull. Its reduced height makes it particularly useful for smaller or more delicate items such as jewellery, watches, sunglasses, stationery, accessories or other everyday essentials that you want to keep neatly organised and easily accessible. It could equally make a useful dedicated drawer for smaller clothing items or personal effects.

The cabinet itself has beautifully rounded edges and softly shaped uprights, giving the piece a pleasingly tactile quality while retaining the simple, uncluttered aesthetic of British mid-century design. The generous width combined with its tall, relatively compact footprint means it offers excellent storage without taking up excessive floor space.
