This original lighted vanity mirror was produced by Allstar in West Germany during the 1960s and is a distinctive example of early Space Age domestic design.
The sculptural cream plastic body surrounds a rotating double-sided mirror accented by a narrow red ring. One side provides a standard reflective surface, while the opposite side is magnifying, allowing the object to serve different grooming and makeup functions within the same compact structure.
A circular integrated light surrounds the mirror, providing even illumination while also becoming an important visual element of the design. Rather than treating the lighting system as an accessory, Allstar incorporates it directly into the architecture of the object.
The combination of moulded plastic, rounded geometry and integrated electrical functionality reflects the optimism and experimentation that characterized progressive European domestic design during the 1960s. Its compact freestanding format made it practical for everyday use, while its unmistakably futuristic silhouette gave it a strong decorative presence.
The cream and red colour combination remains particularly characteristic of the period and reinforces the graphic quality of the design.
This example is preserved in excellent vintage condition, showing only minimal traces of age and use. The mirror and integrated lighting remain fully functional.
