During the 1600s, dining etiquette became increasingly important, and formal table settings evolved to reflect changing social customs. Forks began to appear at the dining table, encouraging a more refined, less hands on approach to eating. While forks improved the dining experience, they were not suitable for every delicacy. This changed in the 1680s with the introduction of the marrow spoon. Designed specifically to extract the rich marrow from inside animal bones, the marrow spoon made it easier to enjoy what was considered a prized delicacy at the time.
