A fabulous antique rug, woven in the village of Bidjar circa 1900. The design is based on a Herati pattern but is more loosely interpreted than more rigid, later examples. The lattice of flower heads is interspersed with animal figures and three and a half humans! All this on an abrashed red field surrounded by a beautifully naive ivory border. Lovely secondary colours of pinks and blues and a highly decorative rug.
Size: 1.94m x 1.26m (6ft 4in x 4ft 2in)
This rug is in good condition with moderate even wear, slightly heavier in places (see photos). A small area of naive (and charming!) re-piling in a green serrated leaf in the border, done some time ago and has now faded to a gold colour (see photos). Fringes and selvedges are secure and it has been professionally cleaned.
