Peter Ronald 'The Tout' Buchanan (British, 1881-1964)
For much of the first half of the 20th Century, “The Tout” drew caricatures, mainly of horse racing society, that were published principally in The Tatler and The Bystander weekly magazines.
The person behind the pseudonym was Peter Ronald Griffiths-Buchanan.
Richard Horatio Edgar Wallace (1 April 1875 – 10 February 1932) was a British writer of crime and adventure fiction.
Edgar Wallace was a famous British writer and turf gambling enthusiast who famously integrated horse racing into his fiction, created the iconic turf-tipster character "Educated Evans," and even provided Britain's first-ever live radio sports commentary for the Epsom Derby in 1923.Edgar Wallace and the Turf
Personal Passion: Wallace had a lifelong love for horse racing and gambling, though his frequent track losses heavily contributed to his personal debts.
Educated Evans: He wrote a popular series of stories centered around Educated Evans, a lovable London turf tipster and self-proclaimed racing prophet.
The Calendar: His 1930 novel The Calendar is a well-known thriller deeply rooted in the British horse-racing and steeplechase world.
Broadcasting Pioneer: He made history on June 5, 1923, by delivering the first-ever radio broadcast of a horse race for the BBC, covering the Derby at Epsom.
