DESCRIPTION:
This is a beautiful mid-century modern solid cast bronze catchall bowl/ashtray. Designed by the renowned sculptor Maurice Ascalon (the designer behind the famous Pal-Bell Co.), this piece features a striking fluted, ribbed geometric design with a scalloped rim. It showcases a stunning natural aged patina with alternating polished bronze tones and deep green verdigris accents in the grooves.
AUTHENTICATION:
The base is stamped with the vintage "MADE IN ISRAEL" mark, indicating it was produced using the original 1950s molds and tooling. The stamp reads "MADE IN ISRAEL" only rather than the full company trademark ("Pal-Bell Co. Made in Israel"). This is due to, Maurice Ascalon relocating to the United States in the 1950s and selling Pal-Bell's production tooling and molds to other local Israeli foundries. These workshops continued to manufacture the exact same designs using the original molds, but modified the stamp to a generalized "Made in Israel" mark to comply with export regulations without using the trademarked company name.
