Antique distressed low table in pine wood, central european rural furniture with painted base originating from central europe and dated circa 1900. Originates from central europe, from the late 19th century, where rural low tables were worked in solid pine with shaped large-format tops and bases painted in light tones.
in the rural houses of central europe, large-format low tables served multi-purpose functions: kneading bread, serving cold meats or preparing preserves. Their wide top and light base made them suitable for collective use around a single piece.
built in solid pine with an oval or shaped-profile top, formed by longitudinal planks joined edge to edge. The base develops on four turned legs painted in white, joined by perimeter stretchers. The carpentry is direct and the base shows the chromatic contrast between the raw pine of the top and the light paint of the legs.
the patina retains the warm tone of aged pine on the top, with marks, stains and traces of intensive use integrated into the wood. The white paint of the legs is heavily worn, with broad losses revealing the pine. The structure remains sound.
it fits naturally in wabi-sabi, contemporary rustic and eclectic interiors. It works as a low living-room table, an anchor piece in a wide entrance or a base for an object composition. Its large-format top gives it presence.
