The lamp has … Read more A Scandinavian Modern table lamp, model 321, produced by the Swedish manufacturer Eskilstuna Elektrofabrik during the 1950s. The lamp has a particularly expressive and sculptural construction, formed from a single continuous brass rod that has been bent to create both the organically shaped base and the gently curving stem. At the top, the stem terminates in a brass fitting supporting the lamp holder, which is concealed beneath a shaped brass cover. The lamp holder is mounted on an adjustable joint, allowing the shade and light source to be tilted and directed as desired. The unusual configuration of the base also allows the lamp to be used as a wall-mounted light, making model 321 a versatile example of Scandinavian lighting design from the period. The brass construction combines a restrained use of materials with an elegant, almost free-form silhouette, characteristic of the more experimental side of Scandinavian Modern design in the 1950s. The brass has developed a warm surface and patina consistent with its age. Complete with a conical, pleated lampshade covered in red textile, which provides a striking contrast to the warm brass frame.
