Bronze valet tray or ashtray. It is part of the famous production of naturalist-themed objects created by the Austrian artist at the beginning of the 20th century.
Friedrich Gornik was born in Carinthia and became one of the leading exponents of Austrian animalistic sculpture during the Art Nouveau and early Art Deco periods.
His works were almost always cast in Vienna in the finest workshops of the time. He was famous for his desk sets with extremely realistic and dynamic animal figures and his series of wild bears or bear pairs.
