Restored trestle base dining table in solid shedua wood by Gerald McCabe, made in Southern California c. 1970s. Shedua, also known as African Walnut, is characterized by dramatic ribboned grain patterns that shift with the light, appearing almost three-dimensional from certain angles.
McCabe’s designs, produced by Orange Crate Modern and Eon Furniture in Santa Monica in the 1960s and 1970s, featured exotic hardwoods and highly organic forms. His trestle-base dining tables were softened throughout, without a sharp edge or corner in sight.
This particular example remains in excellent vintage condition. The tabletop is newly refinished and free from imperfections. The base is in very good original condition, with traces of prior use visible on close inspection.
Although it is unmarked, the build and materials are consistent with marked McCabe tables we have seen.
