This elegant Chinese porcelain rectangular tray features a vibrant, hand-painted famille rose decoration. The central motif depicts a majestic phoenix (or mythical bird) perched upon a blue scholar's rock, accompanied by a white crane amidst large blooming pink and purple peonies. Above them, two playful swallows are seen flying amongst a stylized tree branch.
In Chinese culture, the peony represents wealth and honor, while the phoenix symbolizes virtue and grace; together, they form the auspicious blessing of "May you have prosperity and honor" . The tray features slightly raised edges, a warm white glaze with a beautiful natural crazing (crackle) effect on both the interior and the unglazed base, showing its age and history.
