A rare original early-20th-century Italian advertisement for Gancia Gran Spumante, the celebrated sparkling wine of the Gancia brothers ("F.lli Gancia & C.ia") of Canelli, in Italy's Piedmont region, famous for its wine. The Gancia brothers were credited with producing Italy's first sparkling wine.
This beautiful Belle Époque design depicts a laughing, vine-crowned Bacchus, god of wine, joyfully pouring a coupe of spumante amid clusters of golden Moscato grapes and grape leaves. Signed in the image by the original illustrator and rendered in the rich, painterly color of the period, it dates to around the 1910s. A nice piece of Italian wine history and vintage advertising art for a bar, wine cellar, kitchen, dining room, or collection.
