A particularly attractive antique Chinese carved Shoushan/Gaoshan-type stone seal, distinguished by unusually rich natural variegation in creamy ivory, pale rose, honey amber, russet, and deep burgundy tones.The sculptural finial is carved fully in the round as Shoulao, also known as Shouxing, the traditional Chinese God of Longevity, holding a large peach of immortality. This piece serves beautifully as a miniature sculpture, desk paperweight, or a centerpiece for an Asian art collection.

Stone, Color, and Material

The authentic soapstone itself is one of the most visually striking features of the piece. Naturally mottled areas of cream, pale pink, honey-yellow, amber, russet-red, and burgundy flow throughout both the figure and the rectangular seal body. Irregular clouds, veins, and flecks of color create a beautiful patchwork effect, with areas of soft waxy translucency visible in the lighter portions of the stone. The coloration changes noticeably as the seal is turned in the light.
