This country store table is constructed of solid oak, with turned baluster legs, canted chamfered corner blocks, and a three-board plank top that carries the honest, well-used surface of decades in service. It's a piece chosen for its patina — several fragments of period newsprint have bonded permanently to the tabletop where the original finish wore through, and the single hand-cut drawer is fitted with a hand-forged iron pull plate. The drawer's case is partially built from a salvaged Arbuckle's coffee crate, its original stenciled lettering still visible on the underside, a detail that speaks to the practical, small-shop origins of rural cabinetmakers who built with whatever lumber was on hand. Tables like this served general-purpose duty in American country stores and farmhouses, doubling as work surfaces, sorting tables, and display counters for goods.
