Antique American Empire Gilt Pier Hall Mirror Column Rosette 36” x 22”
Description:
Impressive antique American Empire-style pier or hall mirror featuring elaborate architectural decoration and wonderful old character.
The tall rectangular mirror is flanked by substantial turned half-columns with numerous gilt-highlighted rings and accents. The architectural crest is particularly decorative, with applied floral rosettes, textured panels, a large central flower ornament and a row of hanging acorn-form decorations beneath the projecting cornice. Additional gilt decoration accents the lower portion of the frame.
The combination of muted gold/brown painted surfaces and brighter gilt highlights gives the mirror a very handsome aged appearance.
The back retains an old board/panel construction with an old hanging wire presently attached. The mirror glass also appears to have age and shows the expected surface imperfections associated with an older mirror.
Approximate overall dimensions:
36” high x 22” wide x 4.5” deep
Condition:
Estate-found antique condition with considerable age-appropriate wear. The painted and gilt surfaces show rubbing, scratches, losses, discoloration, small chips and areas of wear. The backing shows age, edge wear, old fasteners and other evidence of use. Mirror glass has spotting and surface imperfections consistent with age. There may be minor losses or old repairs to the applied decorative elements. Please examine all photographs carefully for the exact condition.
A substantial and highly decorative antique mirror with excellent architectural presence—well suited for an entry hall, mantel, period interior, or American Empire/Federal furniture collection.
