Late 19th- to early 20th-century French Vendangeur sculpture in brown-patinated cast spelter, styled after the mid-19th-century model associated with Louis and François Moreau. Originating in France, the figure offers a substantial figural accent for a library, console, or collected interior.
A barefoot grape-harvest boy strides forward carrying a woven basket filled with grapes and holding a harvest knife and staff. Windblown clothing, grapevine foliage, and naturalistic groundwork animate the composition, which rests on a stepped, turned wooden base with a reddish faux-marble finish and an applied VENDANGEUR attribution plaque. Very good antique condition with a well-developed, varied brown patina and age-appropriate surface wear and tonal variation from use and display. The wooden base has finish wear and scuffs, together with a slight age-related crack concentrated near the applied plaque; these details do not diminish the sculpture's decorative presence.
