Antique French mid to late 1800s blue transferware tureen, or soupière, from the factory of Jules Vieillard in Bordeaux.
This tureen is decorated with a cherub and on each side a grotesque, in a neoclassical style and is from their Moustiers collection. It is stunning.
Produced during the Napoleon III era in France, in the mid-late 19th Century. These epitomise the style fashion of the times with a classical theme.
The underside is marked 'Moustiers JV cie'.
The Vieillard factory was created in 1845 and ceased producing ceramic in 1895. Despite, or perhaps because of this, the pieces have become rare and very desirable.
It is in good condition and hasn't any chips or cracks the upper section, just a couple of old chips at the foot. There is a slight colour difference between the lid and the bowl section, not so apparent when the lid is on but more evident with both placed side by side. Please look carefully at all the photos.
