The hinged lid opens to reveal a generous unlined interior of natural teak planking, held in check by an iron chain support on each side. The front face features a substantial iron locking plate with a heart-shaped hasp, flanked by iron side handles. A carved repeating foliate molding runs along the lid's front edge, providing a refined counterpoint to the otherwise utilitarian exterior. The piece rests on a later set of turned bun feet. The iron hardware shows some surface rust consistent with age. See less
