Crafted with richly figured wood veneers, the commode features a gently shaped front with three smaller upper drawers and four larger drawers below. Geometric marquetry and contrasting dark inlay frame the drawer fronts, while delicate decorative motifs add depth and visual interest. The design beautifully reflects the french transition period. Its curved front and shaped apron recall louis xv furniture, while the balanced proportions, geometric decoration, and slender tapering legs anticipate the neoclassical style of louis xvi. Furthermore, the cabinetmaker continued the marquetry onto the sides, creating large geometric veneer panels that give the chest a sophisticated appearance from every angle.
