This expressive reclining nude is rendered in a saturated palette of turquoise blue, violet, mauve, green and warm flesh tones. The nearly square format, closely cropped composition and simplified forms give the work a particularly bold modernist presence.

Vogl studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee. He later taught painting and printmaking at the University of Notre Dame for 31 years, retiring as Associate Professor Emeritus of Fine Art. His work is represented in several museum and institutional collections.

An especially compelling example of Vogl’s figurative work, with strong decorative appeal for both traditional and contemporary interiors.
