Battery-operated tabletop game of chance featuring a brightly lithographed wooden playing board, roulette-style betting grid, colored indicator lights, and a central rotating wheel populated by cast-metal motorcycle racers. Players wager on one of six numbered motorcycles before activating the mechanism; as the wheel revolves, the corresponding colored lights illuminate until the winning motorcycle is selected. The game retains its removable wooden underside panel, internal contact mechanism, brass components, and an assortment of wonderfully detailed riders with remnants of their original painted finishes.
Founded in New York in 1922, J. Pressman & Co. became a prominent American producer of board games, puzzles, and family amusements, issuing numerous mechanical and electrically operated games throughout the 20th century. This game was based on the British game commonly known as “Speedway.”
