The sofa is built around a sculptural hardwood frame with broad, low proportions. Loose cushions in warm cognac leather are suspended within the exposed wooden structure, supported by saddle leather straps that form a visible part of the construction. The rich reddish-brown grain of the wood creates a balanced contrast with the warm tone of the cognac leather.

The Rodeio model reflects the refined character of Brazilian modernist design. Its substantial frame, curved armrests and angled supports give the sofa an architectural presence, while the open sides and suspended upholstery keep the composition visually light and remind of a saddle, after its inspiration. Designed to be appreciated from every angle, the sofa works particularly well in a freestanding position.

Jean Gillon moved to São Paulo in 1956 and later established Italma Wood Art, where he developed furniture combining Brazilian hardwoods with leather. His work from the 1960s is recognised for its expressive construction, generous comfort and careful use of natural materials.
