Gien: Glazed earthenware cachepot with heraldic decoration – Renaissance style
A beautiful polychrome earthenware cachepot, oval in shape with slightly ribbed edges, resting on a small ring base and featuring a wide, flared neck.
The particularly rich decoration stands out against a deep cobalt blue background.
The main face is adorned with a crowned heraldic cartouche, surrounded by broad polychrome foliate scrolls in the Renaissance style.
In the center is a winged putto against a light blue background.
A frieze of stylized orange and blue flowers highlights the upper rim.
The palette, combining cobalt blue, orange, green, white, and light blue, as well as the historicist ornamental vocabulary, evokes French decorative earthenware inspired by Renaissance majolica, which was particularly prized in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
