A stone sculpture depicting a seated lion in a naive style, characterized by simple lines and massive forms. These cubic proportions reinforce its stocky appearance.
The sculpture is carved from a single block of stone and has a compact, very massive, and heavy format (the lion alone weighs 38 kg and measures 30/41 cm, height 32 cm).
It rests on a thick, rectangular (unsealed) base made of reconstituted stone (weight: 33 kg, dimensions: 46/33 cm, height 12 cm).
The sculpture features rounded ears and a square muzzle, typical of folk art and early garden statuary (17th to 19th centuries).
- Historical context: with its protective and intimidating presence, this type of sculpture generally served as gate guardians, placed in pairs on gateposts, low walls, or in the parks of historic estates. - The material used is natural stone (probably limestone or a regional stone) carved directly.
