Takahama, who trained in Japan before settling in Italy, brought a formal rigor rooted in Japanese design culture to Gavina's production, favoring closed, box-like volumes over the exposed metal structures typical of much Italian seating of the period.

The sofa's frame is made of black lacquered wood, with solid panel sides that convey the impression of continuous volumes rather than an assembled structure, consistent with Takahama's preference for seamless surfaces.
