Large Art Nouveau-style brass planter, cache-pot, or jardinière featuring repoussé relief decoration; such items were also frequently used to store firewood. The planter is adorned with a pattern of flowers and stars or suns around the sides, while the bottom rim features a hammered-effect finish. It is a high-quality piece dating from approximately the mid-20th century and is unmarked.
This is a large-sized planter; the brass has developed a beautiful aged patina over the years. Repoussé is an ancient metalworking technique in which malleable metal (such as gold, silver, or copper) is hammered from the reverse side to create a relief design.
The item is in very good used condition, showing minor signs of age and use consistent with its vintage—such as small dents, discoloration, and oxidation. Please see the photos for further details.
