Vintage 1970s Mediterranean Textured Ceramic Urn Tripod Lamp With Black & Gold Shade
A wonderfully unusual vintage statement lamp combining sculptural textured ceramic, elaborate pierced metalwork, and an architectural three-legged tripod form, newly updated with a dramatic black drum shade with a metallic gold interior. Dating approximately to the late 1960s–1970s, the lamp has strong Mid-Century Mediterranean character with elements of Hollywood Regency, Organic Modern, and contemporary designer styling.
The centerpiece of the lamp is its distinctive warm ivory/beige textured ceramic urn, suspended dramatically within a tall metal tripod framework. Rather than resting upon a conventional lamp base, the elongated ceramic body tapers downward to a softly rounded point, leaving open space beneath it and creating an almost floating, sculptural effect.
Encircling the broad upper portion of the ceramic urn is an especially striking pierced metal gallery featuring elaborate scrolling foliage and floral/acanthus-inspired ornament. The openwork construction allows the pale textured ceramic to remain visible through the metalwork, creating exceptional depth and contrast.
The three-legged framework, pierced gallery, and circular lower stretcher have been refinished in a rich, dark oil-rubbed bronze finish. The deep bronze coloration emphasizes the intricate ornamentation while beautifully framing the warm neutral ceramic. The tripod measures approximately 15 inches high, 8 inches across at the upper section, and 11 inches across the feet.
Above the textured urn is the lamp’s sculpted upper cap and neck, finished in a subtly deeper warm beige/taupe tone. This understated two-tone treatment preserves the lamp’s vintage character while providing a graceful transition between the ceramic body and shade.
For this designer presentation, the lamp is paired with a new 18-inch black drum lampshade with a metallic gold interior. Measuring 18 inches across both the top and bottom, the crisp cylindrical shade introduces a sophisticated contemporary counterpoint to the ornate vintage base. The black exterior visually connects with the dark oil-rubbed bronze framework, while the reflective gold interior casts a beautifully warm glow when illuminated and picks up the warmer tones of the lamp’s upper cap.
The substantial original-style 1½-inch spherical ball finial has also been refinished in coordinating oil-rubbed bronze, providing a strong finishing detail above the shade.
The lamp is equipped with an 8-inch harp and three-way socket switch, allowing adjustable illumination with an appropriate three-way bulb. It retains its original amber-colored electrical cord, which is cleverly routed internally through the structure and emerges discreetly near the very bottom of one tripod leg, maintaining the lamp’s exceptionally clean sculptural presentation.
Overall dimensions are approximately 32 inches high × 18 inches wide × 18 inches deep with the black drum shade installed.
This is a particularly compelling example of vintage decorator lighting because of the interaction between ornament, texture, geometry, and negative space. The suspended ceramic urn, open tripod structure, circular stretcher, and intricate pierced gallery give the lamp considerable visual presence without making it appear heavy. The new black-and-gold shade brings those original elements forward in a decidedly more dramatic designer presentation.
Equally suited to a substantial nightstand, living-room side table, console, library table, or entry, this lamp would work beautifully in Hollywood Regency, Mediterranean Modern, Transitional, Eclectic, Organic Modern, Traditional, Spanish Revival, and collected designer interiors.

Condition Details This vintage lamp is in very good overall condition, presenting beautifully with the character and subtle age-related variation expected of a well-preserved piece dating to approximately the late 1960s–1970s. The distinctive three-legged metal framework, including the ornate pierced floral gallery and circular lower stretcher, has been carefully refinished in a rich, dark oil-rubbed bronze finish. The refreshed finish highlights the sculptural construction and intricate openwork detailing while maintaining an appropriately vintage appearance. The textured two-tone ceramic urn is in very good vintage condition, retaining its warm ivory/beige coloration, pronounced dimensional texture, and unusual suspended form. Minor variations and evidence of age may be present and are consistent with the lamp’s vintage character. The lamp is fitted with a new 18-inch black drum lampshade with a metallic gold interior. The new shade is in excellent condition and provides a dramatic contemporary complement to the vintage lamp. The substantial spherical ball finial has been refinished in coordinating oil-rubbed bronze. The lamp is equipped with an 8-inch harp and three-way socket switch and retains its original amber-colored electrical cord, which is routed internally through the structure and exits discreetly near the bottom of one tripod leg. The lamp presents exceptionally well overall. Any minor age-related variations are consistent with vintage use and do not detract from its appearance or decorative appeal. Shipping Note: The new black-and-gold lampshade will be shipped disassembled and requires minor assembly upon arrival. The harp, shade, and finial may be removed and carefully packed for safe transit and are easily reinstalled.
