A vintage Lane Furniture square occasional table from the sought-after Rhythm Collection, Style No. 997-06, made in Altavista, Virginia. This is Lane’s classic square Rhythm lamp-table form, distinguished by its floating-top construction, warm walnut grain, and long sculptural legs with softly curved transitions into the apron.
The broad square top is finished in beautifully figured walnut veneer with a framed perimeter, while a narrow recessed reveal visually separates the top from the base and gives it a light, floating appearance. Below, the restrained apron and gently tapered legs create the clean architectural profile associated with Lane’s 1960s modern furniture. Lane’s original Rhythm collection literature identifies the line as using walnut heartwood and coordinating walnut veneers with solid pecan structural elements.
Its simple proportions make this an especially versatile piece. It can function as a side table, end table, occasional table, accent table, lamp table, bedside table, nightstand, cocktail table, sofa table companion, or small square coffee table. The warm wood tone and understated modernist silhouette work particularly well with mid-century modern, American modern, Scandinavian modern, Danish modern, organic modern, minimalist, vintage modern, and contemporary interiors.
A particularly useful Lane design for collectors who want recognizable mid-century pedigree without an overly decorative profile. The square format also makes it easy to place beside a lounge chair or sofa, between two chairs, or as a compact central table in a smaller seating arrangement.

The walnut top shows scattered surface scratches, light abrasions, small marks, and areas of finish wear/variation, including a more noticeable curved scratch near one edge. Minor nicks, scuffs, and finish loss are present along the apron, edges, corners, and legs, with additional wear near the feet. Overall the table presents well and retains an attractive warm patina and strong walnut grain. Structurally appears solid and stable, with no major cracks or significant damage observed. less
