It features an elegant medallion floral lattice framed by a complementary border along with a coral, ivory, and soft blue palette that reflects the enduring charm of early 20th-century American folk design.

On the Design:
Created during the golden revival of early twentieth-century Indian textile art, this extraordinary rug draws its visual vocabulary directly from the courtly splendor of the Mughal Empire. During this period, master workshops across North India sought to re-interpret classical imperial aesthetics—specifically the refined architectural and botanical manuscripts favored under Emperor Shah Jahan—into innovative, highly tactile formats. The field is organized around an expansive diamond lattice or a jali, a motif directly inspired by the carved marble screenwork of Mughal palaces like Fatehpur Sikri and the Taj Mahal. In Mughal design ethos, the jali functioned not merely as spatial division, but as a sacred cosmic grid filtering light into infinite harmony.
Nested within each diamond cell of the luminous, warm coral field are stylized lotus blossoms or kamal and classical shah abbasi palmettes in soft ivory and sage, symbolizing divine purity and continuous rebirth. Broad, lobed medallions echoing the sunburst or shamsa motifs of imperial Mughal illuminations—anchor the central axis and field corners with monumental architectural poise. Surrounding this vibrant field is a cool, contrasting primary border rendered in pale slate-blue and ivory, filled with continuous floral vinery and delicate rosettes that create a tranquil boundary around the warm ground. Executed in a beautifully healthy pile construction, it grants the rug a rich, majestic relief.
