Gray Chandlers Made in Arbroath Scotland brass gimble lamp is topped with a clear chimney and a green and white ruffle edge bulbuous lamp shade. C. Gray Ship Chandlers (established 1882 in Arbroath, Scotland) is a historical maker of heavy marine hardware, brass oil lamps and bulkhead lanterns used on 19th and early 20th century vessels and steamships. Solid brass kerosene oil lamps, swivel/hinged bulkhead wall lanterns, and dual-wick hanging cabin fixtures were made and this beautiful lamp was likely a swivel/hinged bulkhead lantern that was electricified for current use in the US. Their embossed metal-labeled artifacts are now collectible antique nautical decor. Gimble lamps were designed to sway with the ship's movement, rolling side to side and front to back with ease. This beautiful lamp is wall mounted with a strong brass fitting and the photo shows the many angles the lamp can be rotated. There is a strong pull chain to turn the lamp on. There is a brass plate that reads: "C. Gray Chandlers, Established 1882, Arbroath, Scotland. The chimney is has a paper stamp: "Made in England." Measurements for this fabulous creation are: Height from top of shade to bottom of lamp=28 inches, Width of shade at widest=14 inches. This marvelous brass lamp has been well cared for, gently used and is in excellent antique condition. Shade is free from chips, cracks, discoloration or other imperfections. Brass fixture is free from scratches, wear or discoloration, but does show a lovely patina commensurate with age. Electrical elements including wiring are in excellent working condition for use in US UL sockets and were added in the 1980s. This fabulous lamp is the perfect addition to your home decor, particularly if you admire the nautical style!
