c. 1984; James E. Hoker - United States
Large bronze sculpture depicting a Canada goose mid-stride, its wings gently folded and head lifted in watchful poise. Resting on a walnut base with a brass nameplate reading "Nature's Delight - James E. Hoker - 1984," the piece captures a lifelike combination of strength and serenity, rendered through detailed feather texturing and a fluid, anatomical stance. A subtle patina enhances the natural tonal contrast of the bronze, highlighting the sculptor's mastery of surface and motion.
This piece was designed and created by James E. Hoker, an avid carver, bird aficionado, and member of the President's Council of Ducks Unlimited, a nonprofit dedicated to the conservation of wetlands and other wildlife habitats. Like his father, Hoker is known for his detailed pieces and exhibited them in many shows during the 1980s. Hoker paid great attention to detail on this piece, down to the individual barbs in each feather and the color choices made to closely match natural Canada goose coloration.
The statue is constructed of solid bronze and, as such, is incredibly heavy so care should be taken when moving it. Exhibits minor signs of wear including some discoloration likely from exposure to the elements.
