condition report
painting: the painted surface is in very good antique condition. The black ground shows a beautifully aged, stable surface with very minor, light surface dust and faint handling marks consistent with age. The figures themselves remain wonderfully vibrant with no significant paint loss or restoration noted.

frame: the substantial giltwood greek key frame is structurally sound and retains its magnificent original water gilding. It shows a glorious, authentic patina with minor historical rubbing to the high points, exposing the red bole beneath, and a few insignificant, stable hairline cracks to the gesso corners as expected.

reverse: the backing paper is partially torn at the edges, intentionally preserved to protect the exceptional, fully legible french framer's label. It has been fitted with a secure modern hanging wire and is ready to display.
