1907; The Baker & Taylor Company - New York, NY
Two-volume first edition set of Autobiography of Oliver Otis Howard, Major General, U.S. Army. Bound in red cloth with gilt-stamped spines, both volumes remain structurally sound with light rubbing and shelf wear to the covers.
This set is accompanied by an inserted personal note signed by Oliver Otis Howard, inscribed "With pleasant remembrances, Sincerely Yours, O.O. Howard, Maj. Gen. U.S.A." Howard (1830-1909) was a Union general during the Civil War, recipient of the Medal of Honor, and later the Commissioner of the Freedmen's Bureau and founder of Howard University. The inclusion of his signature greatly enhances the rarity and desirability of this set.
Baker & Taylor, established in 1828, was a prominent New York publishing and distribution house, well regarded for producing scholarly, biographical, and literary works.
