Originally designed in the 1950s/1960s to allow a woman wearing a traditional kimono to sit comfortably without crushing her formal silk sash (obi), this low-slung, armless lounge silhouette is both a rich conversation piece and an incredibly comfortable reading chair.Both pieces feature their original cream-colored silk damask/brocade fabric with an elegant floral pattern and classic button tufting. The sculpted solid wood frames boast gorgeous scrolled ends and a warm, honey-toned finish.An inspection of the underside reveals true mid-century artisan craftsmanship: hand-inked workshop alignment markings along the inner fabric margins, traditional red-striped burlap webbing, and natural fiber padding. Completely solid, sturdy, and ready to style.
