Made of black iron with a classic hobtail (arare) or hailstorm textured pattern, this is an original piece that beautifully showcases the craftsmanship and traditional design of Japanese tea culture. Features a curved swing handle, a matching lid with a small patterned nob, a side pouring spout and a maker's mark on the underside under the spout. This mark is the official registered trademark logo for Iwachu, which is the most famous and prominent producer of traditional Nambu Tekki ironware located in Morioka, Iwate Perfecture. The horizontal-striped square or gate enclosed within a circle maker's mark is a stylized representation of a traditional Japanese iron melting furnace and signifies that the item is a genuine piece of Japanese ironware cast from traditional sand or clay molds, rather than a mass-produced replicate. Indeed, the timeless beauty and worn patina of this lovely piece will make it a unique and valuable addition to any collection of Asian antiques or Japanese decor. Never use soap or scrub the inside as it will destroy the natural mineral layer (kuro-sabu) that protects the kettle from rust.
