In the foreground, men, women, and a child appear engaged in the everyday routines of shoreline life—possibly washing, sorting the catch, tending nets, or preparing baskets—giving the composition a wonderful sense of narrative and lived-in character.

Beyond the figures, a working fishing boat moves through rolling blue-green water, with distant sailboats, a hazy coastline, and a softly illuminated evening sky completing the scene. Expressive, layered brushwork throughout the sea creates beautiful movement and texture, while muted turquoise, ochre, warm amber, and earthy tones give the painting the unmistakable atmosphere of an old European coastal landscape.

The painting was preserved from a larger original canvas and carefully mounted onto a 12” x 16” canvas board, retaining one of the most compelling sections of the original composition. The stretcher from the original canvas bears a Milano stamp, supporting Italian origin. Photographs of the original canvas and stretcher are included to document its history.

Presented with a linen liner in a substantial ornate gilt frame with sculptural detailing and a beautifully aged gold finish.
