12" terrestrial globe mounted on a cast-metal airplane base with a japanned copper finish. Manufactured by Weber Costello Co., one of the leading American globe makers of the mid-20th century, this "Peerless 12" model captures a transitional postwar world-featuring the newly established State of Israel (1948) and a unified Korea, but predating the 1954 partition of Vietnam. Its aviation-themed base, shaped like a streamlined bomber, reflects the optimism and design language of the early Jet Age.
