Contemporary, expressively abstract landscape composition with a strong dominance of color and form
This large-format, distinctive oil painting is a typical, expressive landscape composition by the Hungarian contemporary painter Gyula Subecz. The central theme of the work is the system of stylized, geometric houses and dynamically undulating, mosaic-like landscape elements. The painting's main strength lies in its striking colorism: vibrant blues, violets, turquoises, and golden ochres lend the composition its pulsating rhythm.
Gyula Subecz is a contemporary Hungarian painter whose works are based on color dynamics, fragmented forms, and expressive gestures. In his works, landscape, cityscape, and geometric rhythm often merge.
His characteristic, multi-layered painting technique is clearly recognizable: impasto technique, roughly applied surfaces, partly translucent, partly three-dimensionally built-up patches of color that simultaneously allude to landscape, architectural forms, light, and movement. The overall image is characterized by a modernist-expressive abstraction that does not aim for realistic representation but rather for the pictorial translation of feelings and moods.
