The substantial vessel is formed as a squat urn, with a rounded body rising from a compact foot to a broad, dark-rimmed opening. Its surface is constructed from numerous minute pieces of colored clay, assembled into an intricate mosaic-like composition characteristic of Gerbino's terre mêlée technique. Arsenic green, terracotta, ivory, forest green, blue and black tones combine across the body, with the varied clay fragments creating a particularly complex surface. A wide geometric decorative band encircles the center of the jardiniere. Repeating floral and lozenge-like motifs are meticulously composed from tiny pieces of colored clay, framed above and below by jet-black borders. The same dark finish defines the rim and foot, giving structure and contrast to the densely patterned surface. The terre mêlée decoration continues into the interior, making the craftsmanship visible throughout the vessel. Finished with an enamel glaze, the jardiniere has a rich, reflective surface that emphasizes the individual colors and marbled character of the clay. The underside is stamped and signed with the Gerbino signature alongside Vallauris. Very good condition, with no chips or damage present.
