This antique print is titled, “The First Italian Hospital in London – Queen's Square, Bloomsbury.” The illustration is from The … Read more This antique print is titled, “The First Italian Hospital in London – Queen's Square, Bloomsbury.” The illustration is from The Graphic, a weekly London newspaper, dated January 5, 1889. The illustrator/engraver is the French artist, S. Durand, 1832-1896.

I believe this print has been hand colored. The colors are subtle and soft, primarily light reds, blues, greens, and greys.

There are four scenes, individually captioned:

1. The Dispensary, showing the hospital’s apothecary
2. A Queen Anne Mantelpiece in a Ward, showing a beautiful fireplace mantel
3. An Objection to the Bath, showing a man wrapped in a sheet not wanting a bath
4. A Touching Incident, showing a nurse/nun giving a patient a bird

The print measures 15 x 10.5 inches. It is attached to a cardboard backing, with clear tape around the edges. I do not know how the print is attached to the cardboard. There is a cellophane-type protective cover over the print. See photos, and please excuse the reflections from my lights.

The overall condition is excellent with pretty colors and a striking subject matter. See less
