A wonderfully expressive vintage portrait depicting a woman in profile with dramatically windswept hair sweeping across and above her face. Painted in a restrained palette of warm browns, ochre, cream, and muted gold, the work has an atmospheric, slightly mysterious quality.
The exaggerated movement of the hair creates a strong sense of motion and gives the composition its distinctive character, while the simplified facial features and loose brushwork lend the painting a charming naïve quality. Signed “Esther” at the lower right.
Presented in a substantial vintage wood frame painted warm white with naturally distressed edges and areas of exposed wood. The contrast between the dark, moody portrait and the timeworn white frame gives the piece considerable decorative presence.
