Overview
A museum-grade Mid-Century Balinese modernist masterpiece depicting a courtly noblewoman or goddess in a state of serene devotion. Hand-carved and signed by the pioneering master artisan Ida Bagus Nyoman Kaler of Sanur, Bali, this sculpture represents the absolute zenith of the post-war Balinese Art Deco movement.
Artistry & Lineage
The piece showcases the iconic, hyper-elongated vertical proportions and fluid contours that defined the legendary Sanur school of carving. Sculpted from a single, extraordinarily dense block of premium Macassar ebony wood, the composition exhibits a dramatic, high-contrast tiger-stripe ribbon pattern where the golden-caramel sapwood perfectly contours along her face and torso. The figure is captured cradling an intricately textured container, showcasing Kaler's precision micro-gouge details along the headdress, traditional dress folds, and elongated fingers.
Condition & Presentation
This flagship portfolio asset is in pristine, investment-grade condition. The dense tropical timber has been meticulously hand-maintained to reveal a deeply hydrated, liquid mirror-satin luster. It passes the strictest curation filters with absolutely zero chips, cracks, stress fractures, or post-carving repairs. A true collector's centerpiece holding exceptional provenance value. In keeping with pristine museum-grade preservation standards, the sculpture holds a minor, historic wood grain separation on the side of the offering vessel. This is a common, highly desirable provenance marker found on genuine mid-century heavy timber carvings, resulting from the natural, decade-long expansion and contraction of the Macassar ebony capillaries. It has been beautifully hydrated and completely stabilized, presenting zero threat to the integrity of this investment-grade masterpiece.

This minor contraction is entirely localized to the surface layers, serving as an authentic characteristic of aged, solid-block tropical hardwood and a proud signature of its mid-century manual execution. The piece remains completely stable and structurally rock-solid. less
