Antique 19th Century Italian Renaissance Revival Carved Walnut Sgabello Hall Chair. Crafted from solid walnut. Hand Carvings :
The Crest: A hand-carved Mascherone (grotesque mask) or Aeolus (North Wind) motif blowing a horn.
The Backrest: A Renaissance infantry guard or mercenary (Landsknecht style) on horseback engaged in falconry.
The Trestle Base: A deeply relieved ribbon bow and tassel motif set against a hand-stippled background.
Hand-cut, single-slot flathead iron screws, the manually countersunk recesses, the dark oxide patina, and the raised screw heads caused by generations of natural wood shrinkage.
