In the 1970s or 1980s, countless lifelike tropical statues had been produced using the assembly of regional family teams, rather than a single tropical avionic workshop. An apprentice initially roughed out the silhouette, and village artisans chiseled the geometric V-shaped feather grooves. The assemblage was sent to painters, who applied vivid, multi-colored lacquered stains. Shipped worldwide to bustling Pacific seaport hubs like Callao, Peru, or gateways near Lima and Guayaquil, these tropical artworks became popular during the mid-century frenzy for global imports and included Bohemian and Tiki-themed decor. Over half a century later, the colorful birds still exude exoticism. They present a relaxed yet distinct display of geometric angles and movement at each glance, rich with earthy, vintage wooden undertones and seamless aesthetics. The organic, natural feel adds expression to a bohemian sunroom, a coastal-themed patio bar, a sauna spa, or a tiki-tasting room bar. Styled as a standalone piece, an artistic touch for a bamboo bar cart, or accents to a lush palm garden, the parrots’ concentrated colors recall hand-carved village art and radiate sunny waves of their own.
