The central pale blue medallion with pendants rests on a royal blue field, complemented by vibrant red spandrels that create a bold, confident contrast. The composition is framed by a deep blue border with the classic Herati motif, further enriched by two ivory-ground minor borders featuring a delicate floral meander. Subtle abrash in pale blue and green runs through the field, the natural result of hand-dyeing wool in small batches — a quality that adds depth, warmth, and authenticity to the piece in a way that no uniformly dyed textile can replicate. The Farahan district of Western Persia produced village rugs of extraordinary refinement throughout the 19th century, and the harmonious palette of navy, red, and ivory in this example reflects the artistry of the region's finest weavers. Described by the gallery as one of the most beautiful Farahans in the collection.
