The luminous saffron-yellow field — an unusual and striking color choice that gives this piece a warm glow entirely distinct from the more common ivory and red-field Farahans — is adorned with delicate vines and blossoms in shades of red, blue, and green. A deep midnight-blue medallion anchors the composition with striking contrast. The rust-toned border, enriched with floral rosettes in green, pink, yellow, and blue, enhances the balance and vibrancy of the piece with a palette of great sophistication. Woven in the celebrated Farahan district of Western Persia in the fourth quarter of the 19th century, at the height of the region's weaving tradition, this rug exemplifies the fine weave, natural dyes, and harmonious artistry that have made Farahan Sarouk rugs among the most prized antique Persian textiles in collections worldwide.
