The straw-ivory field is accented by two central diamond motifs, each flanked by small animal forms that symbolize the storytelling tradition of village weavers who encoded the people, animals, and landscapes of their daily nomadic life directly into the textile. Subtle variations in the hand-spun wool create natural abrash, adding depth and character. The Gabbeh — meaning 'raw' or 'unfinished' in Persian — was traditionally woven by Qashqai women as a personal textile for domestic use, its thick pile and bold simple designs reflecting a freedom from the formal design vocabulary of commercial production. Today, Gabbeh rugs are collected worldwide for exactly this authentic, personal quality.
