This is an exquisite French Louis XIII os de mouton style settee, circa early 1900s.
Instantly recognizable by its solid walnut curving legs joined by a matching stretcher,
reinforcing the design and making the settee sturdy for daily use. It is newly
upholstered with a linen/polyester blend to give it more durability rather than pure
linen which tends to stretch and sag. The effect is elegant, sculptural, and substantial.
This style is among my favorites because of the timeless design and a strong focal
point to any room. *Pillows are not not for sale
FUN HISTORY FACTS:
The French phrase, os de mou-ton (pronounced os duh moo-ton), refers to sinuous
stretchers that look like sheep (mutton) bone which is the quintessential element
of Louis XIII style furniture.
