A spirited vintage framed color reproduction of “A Race for Blood!” by Currier & Ives, after an image by Louis Maurer. This dramatic American equestrian scene captures three harness-racing drivers and their horses charging forward at full speed, with sulky wheels, raised whips and flying manes conveying remarkable movement and energy.
The composition is especially engaging for its detailed treatment of the horses’ musculature, animated expressions and shadows cast across the racetrack. A distant shoreline and open sky provide an atmospheric backdrop to the action.
The lower margin reproduces the title “A Race for Blood!,” the Currier & Ives publisher information, the 1890 copyright line and the 115 Nassau Street, New York address. The image also bears Maurer’s printed signature or credit at the lower right.
Presented in a wonderfully timeworn red-painted wooden frame with an authentic aged surface and hanging wire on the reverse. Its compact dimensions make it particularly well suited to a traditional study, library, office, equestrian-themed interior or collected gallery wall.

The red-painted wooden frame has visible scratches, chips, rubbing, paint loss and separation or unevenness at several corner seams. The publisher line at the lower left is partially worn. The reverse retains older wooden backing boards and a hanging wire. The artwork has not been removed from its frame; therefore, the concealed edges and reverse of the sheet have not been examined.
