A documented French carved oak extension dining table in the Louis XIII hunting style, circa 1860, accompanied by the original 2001 dealer certificate from Elke’s Antiques and a 2006 insurance appraisal.
The table features an oval oak top with a deeply carved gadrooned border, supported by a substantial carved central standard rising from four dramatic outswept legs. The base is richly ornamented with scrolling foliate carving, fruit-and-leaf motifs, and substantial turned and carved details throughout.
The table incorporates three removable extension leaves and two additional turned hinged support legs on casters that deploy beneath the extended ends. Fully extended, the table reaches approximately 118.75 inches in length, allowing it to transition from a compact oval dining table to a nearly ten-foot formal dining table suitable for large gatherings.
The original 2001 dealer certificate from Elke’s Antiques, Ramstein-Miesenbach, Germany, identifies the table as “Tisch, Frankreich / Louis XIII Jagdstyl / um 1860. Eiche,” translating to “Table, France, Louis XIII hunting style, circa 1860, oak.”
The table is also documented in a September 26, 2006 insurance appraisal by The Specialists of the South, Inc. The appraisal describes an oval oak dining table with three leaves, a large carved standard, four outswept carved legs with fruit-and-leaf decoration, a wide gadrooned border, and two round turned hinged support legs. The appraisal assigned a retail replacement value of $8,000 in 2006.
The table measures approximately 48.25 inches long when closed, 57.25 inches wide, and 28.75 inches high, and extends to approximately 118.75 inches long with all three leaves installed. Two leaves measure approximately 23.25 inches wide and retain decorative apron/edge treatment; the third measures approximately 23.75 inches wide and does not have the same decorative edge treatment.
A substantial and highly sculptural nineteenth-century French dining table combining
exceptional carved detail with unusual versatility and scale.

The table is structurally sound and functional, including the extension mechanism and hinged support legs. Oak surfaces show expected age-related wear, minor marks, scratches, finish variation, and color variation. The extension leaves show visible differences in tone and finish relative to one another and to the primary tabletop sections. Two leaves retain decorative apron/edge treatment; the third does not have matching edge decoration. The carved pedestal and legs present well with normal evidence of age and prior use. Please review all photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the condition description. less
